Introduction:

Assassin's Creed: Pirates is a 3D open-world adventure game with a storthat follows the pirate, Alonzo Batilla, who holds the key to finding the treasure of the French pirate La Buse. The game focuses entirely on naval combat and is set in the 18th century in the Caribbean Sea, similar to recent console release, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black FlagCurrently the game is listed at $4.49 in the Windows Phone Store.

Step 1: Play the Game Through Chapter 5 - Grand Bahama:
The single player campaign consists of seven chapters (missions) set in different regions. The are no missable achievements, so just focus on progressing through the game up through the fifth region, Grand Bahama. Each open-world region of the game has numerous side missions to complete that will award supplies and gold which are needed for upgrades. Complete as many as needed to make sure your ship is powerful and fast enough to remain competitive in the campaign. You will need to complete everything eventually anyway for the 100% sync achievements. Depending on your skill and exploration, this step should take from 10 to 15 hours. Only proceed through Chapter Five as there are no achievements for the missions or regions past there.

Step 2: 100% Sync:
After completing the first five story chapters, you will need to return to all of the first five regions to obtain 100% memory sync. This will require completing almost everything. Once you get the powerful Abyss ship later in the game, you will have no trouble mopping-up in short time. See "The Seeker" for exactly what is required for 100% sync in a region. Depending on how much you completing the first time through, this could take five hours or more.

Step 3: Grind to Destroy 1,000 Ships:
After obtaining 100% sync on the first five regions, you will still need a ton of ship kills. See "Captain Blood" for the best method to knock these out. This step will require another three to five hours of solid grinding.

Conclusion:
Assassin's Creed: Pirates is a beautiful looking game that embodies the spirit of the Assassin's Creed series, but lacks the exciting third-person adventure you are probably used to. However, it does an excellent job at making ship battles engaging, albeit repetitive. The completion is not that difficult, but it is sure to take up a good chunk of time.

A Legend is Born.10
Complete A Legend is Born    (3)

*Story-related* This achievement requires that you complete the very first Story Mission, called A Legend is Born. Simply follow the instructions to complete this tutorial mission.

On my way10
Complete 10 secondary missions

See "Sea Wolf."

Sea Wolf10
Complete 50 secondary missions   (1)

These achievements require that you complete a cumulative total of 10 and 50 secondary objectives. Secondary objectives are the optional requirements for the side missions. Side missions include:

  • Assassinations (three secondary objectives)
  • Races (three secondary objectives)
  • Mysteries (two secondary objectives)
  • Merchant Chases (three secondary objectives)

These achievements will unlock naturally when progressing through the game or while going for the 100% sync achievements. There are far more than 50 in the game. Note that each secondary objective can only be completed once to count towards the 50. Once it is completed, it will appear with a green check mark over it on the mission-select screen.

Master of the Seas10
Destroy your first enemy ship

This will likely be your first achievement. It requires that you destroy a single enemy ship. This will happen very early on during the tutorial. Just follow the instructions to sink your first ship.

Terror of the Seas10
Destroy 200 enemy ships

See "Captain Blood."

Captain Blood10
Destroy 1000 enemy ships   (2)

These achievements require that you destroy a cumulative total of 200 and 1,000 enemy ships. You should reach 200 ships destroyed sometime before finishing Chapter Five, depending on how many ships you plunder along the way through the game. However, reaching 1,000 ships destroyed will definitely require some grinding after completing all other achievements.

The best method to grind ships is to take your most powerful ship (the Abyss) to the first region and fight all of the battles with multiple enemy ships. Fully upgrade your ship and choose perks that will help you most, similar to as follows:

  • Sail: There is not many perks in this category that are useful, so it is suggested you choose those that will increase your speed to increase the rate at which you move across the map. Options include High Spirit (increase speed 10% during daytime) and Full Speed (increase speed by 10%).
  • Figurehead: Again, not much here is at all useful. The Instant Reload perk is suggested (instantly reloads all of your attacks).
  • Hull: This is the most important set of perks. You should tune the perks to match the opponents you will be facing most frequently in the first region, basically small sailboats. The most effective attack against them will be the canister rounds. Recommended perks include Brute Force (15% overall damage boost), Canister Pro (increase canister rounds by 60%), and Critical Shot (increase crit change by 10%).
  • Cannons: Not a very useful category, but Critical Strike is recommended (next attack will be a critical one).

From the region-selection screen, choose the first region, Scorpion Reef. Move around according to the image below, starting from the Spawn Point. Fast travel when specified, and manually move your ship by drawing paths for it on the map when noted. Once in battle, be sure to skip all cut scenes. As the battle begins, use your Spider Shot immediately to break the enemy attack. When it is your turn, fire away. Use the canister rounds first to take out one ship. Then hit the next ship with the gun, followed by the cannonballs. This may destroy both ships, but if not, you will get another chance with your canisters before the enemy's next turn. The only battle that may possibly proceed into a second round is the one battle where you fight three boats. To prevent this, save your abilities (next shot guaranteed critical/instant reload) for the second battle (i.e. don't use them in the first battle from the picture below).

Following this route will destroy 15 ships in four and a half to five minutes, including all loading screens. At this pace, you will net around 180 to 200 ships per hour of playtime. After completing all other achievements, you are looking at a solid three to five hour grind.

Abandon Ship10
Unlock the Wanderer

*Story-related* This achievement requires that you select the Wanderer ship, which is part of the first story mission/tutorial, so technically it is story-related and cant be missed.

Jump Ship10
Unlock the Riptide   (1)

This achievement requires that you purchase the Riptide ship, which unlocks at Level Six and costs 25,000 gold. See "When my ship comes in" for more information on grinding gold.

Ship Off10
Unlock the Fearless

This achievement requires that you purchase the Fearless ship, which unlocks at Level 13 and costs 90,000 gold. See "When my ship comes in" for more information on grinding gold.

When my ship comes in10
Unlock the Abyss

This achievement requires that you purchase the Abyss ship, which unlocks at Level 18 and costs 150,000 gold. This is the most battle-hardened ship in the game, but it is quite slow. The price is high, but a quick way to earn gold is to repeatedly complete a short and simple side mission over and over. In the fifth region, the Grand Bahama, familiarize yourself with one of the Races. Then complete it over and over. Do not worry about the secondary objectives; just don't let time run out. Each time your complete the Race, which should take about one minute, you will earn 6,000 gold. Use the Wanderer (with fully-upgraded Speed) to assure victory.

Sailing in style10
Fully upgrade one ship

This achievement requires that you fully-upgrade one ship. From the Pause Menu, click the anchor to enter the Ships screen. Here you can select and upgrade your ships. At the bottom your can see the Speed, Power, and Defense for each ship. Yellow bars represent the current stats for each ship, while the blacked out bars are upgradable. To quickly and cheaply earn this achievement, upgrade the speed for The Serpent, the only upgrade available for this ship. It will cost just 500 gold and 100 planks of wood. You will have this already available to you as soon as you exit the first mission.

Join me!10
Recruit your first crew member

*Story-related* This achievement requires that you recruit your first crew member. From the Pause Menu, you can recruit new crew members by clicking on the Tavern and hiring them for gold. This is a required step right at the end of the tutorial, just after finishing the first story mission, so technically it is story-related and cant be missed.

Bounty Call10
Find your first treasure

This achievement requires that you find your first treasure chest. To find a treasure chest, you must first obtain a treasure map. These drop randomly in crates after defeating both enemy and cargo ships (red and yellow ships). After defeating any enemies, make sure to check the area after the battle for floating cargo. Once you have a treasure map, a location will be shown on your map for the treasure chest. Go there and pull out your looking glass. Spin around until you see the chest and open it to unlock this achievement.

Buccaneer10
Reach Level 10

See "Brother of the Coast."

Brother of the Coast10
Reach Level 20

These achievements require that you reach Level 10 and Level 20 in the game. Leveling in the game is controlled by XP which is earned by completing story missions, side missions, and from defeating enemy ships. You will have more than enough XP to reach Level 20 by the time you complete all other achievements, so don't worry about grinding XP. For those that are worried, there is a perk you can obtain and equip called Old Salt that will increase XP gain by 30% when it is fully-upgraded.

The Navigator10
Reach 100% sync on Scorpion Reef

See "The Seeker."

The Explorer10
Reach 100% sync on Bahía de Guadiana   (1)

See "The Seeker."

The Adventurer10
Reach 100% sync on Los Mártires

See "The Seeker."

The Discoverer10
Reach 100% sync on La Habana

See "The Seeker."

The Seeker10
Reach 100% sync on Grand Bahama   (2)

These achievements require that you obtain 100% sync in the first five regions of the game (not including the tutorial area): Scorpion Reef, Bahia de Guadiana, Los Matires, La Habana, and Grand Bahama. In order to obtain 100% sync in each region, you must do the following:

  1. Complete the story mission in the region: Go to the yellow exclamation point marker and complete the story mission. There is one per region.
  2. Complete all Race and Assassination missions in the region, including all of the secondary objectives: Each region has a total of four race and four assassination side missions to complete. You must not only finish them, but complete all three secondary objectives within each mission to earn 100% sync. The secondary objectives DO NOT need to completed in a single run of the mission. They can each be obtained separately and it will still count. For Race missions, it is best to use the Wanderer ship with fully upgraded speed. For the Assassinations, use your most powerful (highest attack) ship that you own. If needed, equip perks to help with the secondary objectives if you get stuck, such as those for increasing your ship's speed or handling, or making your attacks stronger.
  3. Find all treasure chests in the region: To find a treasure chest, you must first obtain a treasure map. These drop randomly in crates after defeating both enemy and cargo ships (red and yellow ships). Later in the game, at a random level, you will obtain a Hull perk that increases the drop rate for treasure maps, called Treasure Bounty. Make sure to fully upgrade this perk and equip it to speed up the process (it increases drop rate by 30%). Otherwise, treasure maps will drop very infrequently. Once you have a treasure map, a location will be shown on your map for the treasure chest. Go there and pull out your looking glass. Spin around until you see the chest and open it.
  4. Save all shipwrecked fisherman in the region: Shipwrecked fisherman are a dynamic event in the game. While you are cruising around in your ship (either in immersive mode or map mode), a pop-up will come on screen about a fisherman to save. Be very quick, as there is a very unforgiving time limit. Go to the location and find the fisherman in the water. Use the icon and your map to locate him. Tap on him to save him once close enough. These events are random. However, later in the game, at a random level, you will obtain a Sail perk that increases the rate of dynamic events, called Dynamic Events (this is the perk name too). Make sure to fully upgrade this perk and equip it to speed up the process (it increases the rate by 30%). Otherwise, these events will appear very infrequently. There is also a perk that will increase to time limit to save the fisherman, called Stay Alive, which can be very helpful if you are having trouble.
  5. Unlock all Viewpoints in the Region: These are marked on your map by a bird symbol. Go to the location and battle a ship to unlock a lighthouse, which clears a large area of the fog for you and opens up a fast travel location. There are six of these in each region.
  6. Find all Lost Files in the Region: Lost files are secret messages in a bottle and act as a the collectible in the game. They are always found near land, floating on the surface of the water. You must tap on them to collect them when close enough to make their icon appear. They only appear on your mini-map in immersive mode, and only if you are close enough. Since they only appear near land, use map mode to navigate your ship to an area of land. Then switch to immersive mode. Look for the Lost File symbol on the mini-map (looks like a bottle). If you see one, head there in immersive mode to collect it. If not, use map mode to find another area of land and try again. Each region is not that large and the distance from which the Lost Files will appear on your mini-map is forgiving, so these are easy to locate. Just keep track of which land areas you have already checked. Later in the game, at a random level, you will obtain a Sail perk that increases the range you can see the Lost Files, called File Seeker. Make sure to fully upgrade this perk and equip it to speed up the process (it increases view range by 30%). There are Five Lost Files in each region.
  7. Complete All Encounters with the Slavers: Slaver encounters are a dynamic event in the game. While you are cruising around in your ship (either in immersive mode or map mode), a pop-up will come on screen about engaging a slaver ship. Be quick, as there is a time limit. Go to the location and engage the slaver ship. Use the icon and your map to locate it. These events are random. However, later in the game, at a random level, you will obtain a Sail perk that increases the rate of dynamic events, called Dynamic Events (this is the perk name too). Make sure to fully upgrade this perk and equip it to speed up the process (it increases rate by 30%). Once you engage the ship, use the gun to precisely hit all the green bullseyes, being careful not to hit any other part. Once you hit them all, quickly collect all the slaves that jumped overboard to save them. Maneuver your ship and tap on them to collect them. There are usually about five to ten slaves that need pulled from the water. Use your map and be quick, as there is a time limit. NOTE: You won't find any slavers in the first region until you complete Chapter Two of the story, which first introduces slavers.

Once you do all of the above for a given region, the achievement will pop. You can check your progress towards each of the requirements from the Profile screen, accessed by tapping the icon of Alonzo's head, located in the top left corner of the Pause Menu. Do this while you are in the region you want to check. There is no incentive to 100% sync the regions that do not have achievements tied to them. Also note that the Mystery Missions (marked with a question mark on the map) and their secondary objectives are not required in any way; they can be skipped entirely.
