Introduction:
Galactic Reign is a turn-based strategy game in which users of both Windows Phone and Windows 8 can battle each other for control of the galaxy. You assemble a fleet of starships and take command, and then choose a species to man the ships and customize them with weapons such as torpedoes and laser fire, and power-ups. You need to expand your fleet with vital resources harvested from nearby planets while battling other players for control of three key planets in the system which determine the winner. In addition to the online multiplayer component, there is single-player mode that consists of 60 short challenge levels. For a more in-depth review of the game from WPCentral, click HERE. Currently the game is listed at $4.99 in the Windows Phone Store and is cross-platform with Windows 8.

Step 1: Battle Academy challenges:
There are two achievements directly related to this single-player game mode. There are 60 levels which you can earn three stars on based on how well you score. You only need a total of 150 stars to unlock the last achievement so there is some wiggle room. Luckily, this mode is as simple as following a guide and should take you less than one hour to do.

Step 2: Multiplayer boosting:
A majority of the game's achievements are related to the multiplayer game mode (which is online only, no local). Fortunately, all of the achievements can be boosted rather quickly with one other player, though a few of them are slightly luck based. See the achievement trading thread HERE to find another player to boost with. If you have a Windows 8 PC/tablet or a second Windows Phone, the boosting is much simpler as you can do it all by yourself on two devices. See the insert below titled "Boosting by Yourself" for more information.

BOOSTING BY YOURSELF:
It is possible to boost this game entirely by yourself if you have another Windows 8 or Windows Phone device at your disposal. This is because the free trial version of the game is actually the full game, just without two of the races to play with. That means you can download the trial of the game on another device and play against it. You do need another Microsoft account with a free gamertag tied to it, however. Self-boosting can be done for this game with another Windows Phone (7 or 8 both work) or a Windows 8 PC/tablet. In the case of Windows Phone, you will need to hard reset the phone and boot it up with the other Microsoft account (NOTE: erases ALL content on phone). If you have a Windows 8 PC, you can just create a secondary user to log-in with and download the game. I won't go into detail here about how to create another user, create another Microsoft account, or how to make a gamertag with the account. Google is your friend.

COMPLETING BOTH THE WP and WINDOWS 8 VERSIONS:
If you plan to complete both versions of the game, read on. You will need to spend the $4.99 two times, once on each platform, in order to be able to unlock all of the achievements. If you plan to do this, you can use a trick to combine both of your playthroughs to minimize the completion time. First off, you will only need to complete the single-player Battle Academy challenges and the 25 wins in multiplayer on one platform. Once you get the achievements, on the other platform just enter the Achievements screen from the Main Menu and they will pop. For the rest of the achievements, a trick can be used. Whenever you unlock a multiplayer achievement on one device, do not advance to the next turn. Go to your other device and load up the same exact game. It will boot up to the same turn, unlocking the same achievement on the other platform. This even works with the comeback from 10 points down to win achievement. Just enter the game that you won on the other platform (it will say Game Over on the tile) and the achievement will pop. Using this technique will allow you to complete both versions in just about the same time it would take you to complete one of them!

!! IMPORTANT NOTE !!
First things first. The game has a slightly cool feature where it will compile a video of your ships battling your opponent's ships in the cloud and then upload it to your phone to watch it. This is neat, but ends up being a laggy nightmare of load times. Do yourself a favor and turn this feature off by going to the Options from the Main Menu and unchecking the box for "Render Battle Videos."

Conclusion:
This game is quite easy to complete, especially if you can boost by yourself. The single-player challenges are as easy as following simple directions in a guide and the multiplayer achievements can all be boosted quickly. You can even stack this game with the Windows 8 version (but you will need to shell out another $4.99) and some of the achievements will cross-over and unlock automatically.

Design a Ship5
Design a new ship.

Designing ships is the focus of the game so you will definitely get this one with no problem. This can be earned in the Battle Academy or multiplayer. To design a ship, you must first select a hull, then click the white spots on the hull to add weapons and attachments to the ship. Once you do so and confirm the blueprint, the achievement will unlock.

Win a Battle10
Win a battle in a multiplayer game.

All you need to do is win any battle in multiplayer. Just take a fleet of strong ships to battle a weak group of enemy ships. Many other achievements in the game require you to win battles, so don't waste time actually trying to get this one.

Activate Scanners5
Analyze a ship in a battle video.

This achievement is the only one in the game that requires you to have battle videos turned on. So head back into the Options from the Main Menu and make sure the box for "Render Battle Videos" is checked. Next time you get into a battle (whether it be in multiplayer, or Battle Academy), a video will be rendered in the cloud and uploaded to your phone. When the video is playing, click the screen and then the Scan button. You can then select any of the ships you see to get some statistics for that specific ship about its battle performance. As soon as you tap any ship on screen, the achievement will unlock. Remember to turn the battle videos back off before progressing to the rest of the game.

A Good Start5
Earn a victory point.

Victory points are what determine the winner in this game. The first to get 25 of them wins. Victory points are earned by colonizing the victory planets, which are the gold (and blue) planets that appear larger than the other ones. There are three victory planets around each map. To unlock this achievement, all you need to do is move one of your ships to an victory planet. You will get a victory point as soon as your ship goes into orbit around the planet.

Strike Up the Colors5
Personalize your forces.

From the Main Menu, select Personalize. All your need to do is select a different color or emblem for you ships in this screen. As soon as you change anything here, the achievement will unlock.

Win a Game10
Win a game.

See "Master and Commander."

Master and Commander20
Win 25 games.

These achievements can be boosted with another player or yourself. Use the gamertag you want to get the achievements with to invite the other player to the game. The other player just needs to accept the invite and immediately concede the game. This is done in-game by selecting the arrow in the top right corner of the screen, then clicking on the image of the flag and confirming the forfeit. After the other player has conceded, you need to click on the game so that you see the "victory" screen for the game to count towards your total wins. You can check your progress towards 25 wins from the Main Menu under Achievements.

We Happy Few10
Win a battle with 50% or less of the enemy's fleet value in a multiplayer game.

This achievement is less about luck and more about strategy. You need to prepare a fleet that is tailored for taking out the specific ships in the enemy fleet, getting more bang for your resources.

Have your opponent create a fleet of light strikers, with any attachments/weapons they want. Then you will need to research the thresher flak guns for the gunships, as well as advanced scanners. It may take several turns to get enough resources to do so. Know the value of your opponent's striker fleet. Then construct your gunship fleet, with thresher flak cannons and advanced scanners, to a value just slightly less than 50% of your opponent's fleet. Remember, you can look at the value of a fleet by zooming in on it (not clicking it). For example, if your opponent has a striker fleet value of 1000, your gunship fleet should have a value of around 475. Then battle your two fleets. Because the gunships are specifically designed to destroy strikers, you should have no problem getting this achievement on the first try.

Once More Unto the Breach10
Win a battle with less than 10% of your fleet value remaining in a multiplayer game.

This is the most luck-based achievement in the game and it will probably take you several attempts to actually unlock it. First, you and your boosting opponent need to organize a favorable set-up to make this go quickly and smoothly. Essentially, you each want to colonize a planet. Between both of your planets should be another planet you can use as a battlefield. This set-up ensures you do not have to waste turns getting back into position if the achievement does not unlock.

You will both want to craft identical fleets of light strikers (the very first ship). The fleets should number anywhere between 500 and 1000 ships, just pick a number. Once you both have fleets with the same amount of strikers, get into a battle on the uncolonized planet between you two. To unlock the achievement, you need to win the battle and end up with less than 10% of the original value of your fleet. So for example, if you battled 500 light strikers, you would need to win AND only have less than 50 strikers left. There is a fair amount of luck involved in this process. So it may take several tries. Just keep at it. If you do not get it, just take a few turns to rebuild your fleets back to 500 or 1000 strikers, before meeting on the battlefield planet once again. Making the fleets identical ensures the fight will be fairly even and the winner will barely have any ships left.

While you have this process set-up, your opponent should attempt the achievement as well.

Scour from the Stars10
Win two battles in one turn.

Just make it so you have two powerful fleets that come to battle two of your opponent's weak fleets in the SAME turn (i.e. 2 small ships vs. 2 dreadnaughts). The achievement will unlock when you click on the second blue cloud to see the battle results, if you won both battles of course.

The Engine of War10
Colonize three planets in one turn.

Anytime you move a ship onto a planet that is not already colonized (doesn't have a colored glow to it) you can colonize it yourself if you have enough resources. When your ship is orbiting a planet, click on the planet to colonize it. To earn this achievement, you need to colonize three planets in the same turn. This is pretty simple. You just need to make sure three of your four fleets are on an uncolonized planet and that you have the resources to complete the colonizations. The price to colonize planets increases as you build your empire, so be wary.

If you are having trouble figuring this one out, just load up a fresh new game. One your first turn, you will start out with at least three fleets on uncolonized planets.

  1. Turn 1: Use two of your fleets to colonize the planets they start on.
  2. Turn 2: Move those same two fleets to new and different planets that are uncolonized.
  3. Turn 3: Colonize the three planets your fleets are on.
  4. Turn 4: Achievement unlocked.
Always Go At Them10
Build a fleet of value 3000 by turn four.

Follow these instructions precisely from the beginning of a new game:

  1. Turn 1: Colonize two planets that your fleets are already orbiting. Then use whatever resources are left over to build more strikers into one of your fleets (does not matter which one).
  2. Turn 2: Use all your resources to build more strikers for the same fleet you added to in Turn 1.
  3. Turn 3: Repeat the last turns move.
  4. Turn 4: Achievement unlocks as your fleet is assembled and surpasses 3000 value. If you zoom in on the fleet you can see its value (zoom, not click on).
Overwhelming Force10
Build a fleet with five or more dreadnaughts in a multiplayer game.

See "You Sank My Dreadnaught!"

You Sank My Dreadnaught!10
Destroy an enemy dreadnaught in a multiplayer game.

Your opponent will first have to research far enough to unlock the dreadnaught. Then they need to build one and you have to destroy it. This achievement is best gotten along side the "Overwhelming Force" achievement, which requires you to build a fleet containing 5 or more dreadnaughts. Research the dreadnaught blueprint, then build a fleet with 5 of them. Use this powerful fleet to take on your opponent's single dreadnaught fleet. This will unlock both achievements.

I Have the High Ground10
Control all victory planets at the end of a turn.

Just take over and control all three victory planets at the end of a turn. You can "control" a victory planet by either colonizing it or just having a ship orbiting the planet. Just move around doing this while your opponent does nothing and gets their ships out of your way.

Sever the Supply Lines10
Bombard a planet that breaks an opponent's sector.

A sector is a cluster of two or three planets that when entirely colonized by the same player give bonus effects and look to be shrouded in a large, colored circle. Each player at the beginning of game starts with one sector already colonized (on some maps). Move one of your fleets up to the opponent's sector. Have your opponent move their fleets out of your way. Once you make it to one of the planets in their sector, just let your ship stay there and orbit the planet for one turn. This is called bombardment, and after one turn the planet will no longer be colonized and that will have broken the opponent's sector.

Sticks and Stones10
Research all technologies in one game.

From the in-game arrow menu, click on the Research tab (looks like a flask with bubbles). You need to research all 18 technologies that are greyed out. Researching costs resources. To research a technology you need to click on it and then confirm the research. It takes one turn for items to finish being researched. Note that the research sections are like trees, requiring previous technology to be researched before you can research some of the higher technologies.

If you colonize a few planets on your first few turns, it will take less than 10 turns to research everything if that is all you spend your resources on.

Playing the Long Game10
Win a game after being down by 10 victory points.

Just let your opponent get a 10 point lead, and then come back and win. If you have control of all three victory planets, you will get 4 victory points per turn. Your opponent should also be able to concede the match (under the drop down menu, click the flag icon and confirm) after they have a 10 point lead to unlock the achievement for you as well.

Tactician10
Earn 30 stars in Battle Academy challenges.

See "Master Tactician."

Master Tactician20
Earn 150 stars in Battle Academy challenges.

Battle Academy challenges are the single-player portion of this game. They present 60 battle challenges, where you can see what ships and weapons the enemy you will be fighting has. You then attempt to create the perfect counter fleet of your own to battle them, given a fixed number of resources, ship types, and weapons. The portion of your fleet remaining at the end of the battle determines how many stars you are awarded. You need to earn a total of 150 stars out of the 180 that are possible.

A great guide to earning the stars has been prepared by Zebrasqual, K4rn4age and NJDuke 007. You can find it HERE. For each level just construct exactly what is outlined in the guide. There is a small amount of randomness in every battle, so if you do not get the desired outcome the first try, keep trying a few more times.
