ARCADE KOMBATANT

25
Finish Mortal Kombat II

Select Mortal Kombat II from the main menu and fight your way up the ladder until you've defeated all kombatants. Shao Khan is the final boss.

Mortal Kombat II is a BITCH. Let's get that out of the way first of all.
The other two games are hard, this will have you crying in a corner. It not only knows your moves but it knows your next THREE moves before you've even thought of them.

TIPS:
Most of the characters will quite happily walk into your sweep in the early matches if you shuffle around for a second while they're down, then sweeping them again while they attempt to get up.

I found that most of the cast were quite happy to walk into Baraka's Blade Shredder too when walking backwards. Baraka is also a great character to use as you can jump back against the wall and punch them in the face and then follow this up with his Blade Swipe move.

Shang Tsung: I found the best way to kill Shang Tsung was to jump around the screen and kick him while he's vulnerable. Jump kick him while he's jumping towards you or sending a fireball your way. Just keep moving constantly over him. Confuse him.

Kintaro: Kitana's Air Wave is great use here if you jump in to Kintaro and input the move as he's blocking, you'll land and lift him straight away. As he's floating, jump towards, land, then uppercut. You'll catch him on the way down. You must have good timing for this but practice makes perfect and it's a surefire way to win.

Shao Khan: I got a double flawless on Shao Khan by doing Baraka's Blade Shredder constantly. He just walked into it every time.

The CPU in MK2 is really easy to pull cheese victories on if you know the tricks.

In the arcade I could beat the game on 1 quarter, especially using Shang Tsung.

Is it me or is this MK2 way harder than the one I remember? I could beat the arcade with about 5 bucks, but now I can't get past the 4th fighter.

Your absolutely right.. it's ALOT harder than I remember. I use to play on the snes and I would only use a continue at Kintaro, and now im using them starting at match 3-4. I think they really need to fix the AI, as there is no sense on normal, let alone VERY EASY for them to block everything and destroy me with flawless victories.

#4 and #5, you have to beat the game on Normal difficulty or harder to get the achievement, if you changed the settings to easy or very easy it doesn't unlock.

Yes, this is the real arcade (as in quarter eating machine) version. Much harder than anything released on the early consoles.

Curious - folks who have this achievement, did you have to fight Jade (question mark entry)? Or were you able to get it without fighting her. Only way to get to her that I know is doing low kicks / sweeps the entire match prior.

#11, are you sure about the change? I changed the settings for and got the achievement for MK1 and MK3. Got killed attempting to get through MK2. Baraka was a pain and I just gave up. Will have to attempt again. Can anyone confirm the difficultly is an issue?

Just wanted to say that the achievement doesn't require fighting Jade (or the ? match). As long as you play on normal you will unlock it. It took me forever to get past Kintrano. This youtube video helped me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TeCQZqUgZ4

@15 I know for a fact you can do it on very easy for MK1 and get the chievo. I cant even finish MK2 so cant comment on that. But as far as i can figure, the only reason it says any difficulty on MK3 is cos its frefering to the ladder difficulty, and not the main menu settings.

AAAARRRGGGG FKN HATE THIS GAME....I HAVE NEVER GOTTEN MY ASS HANDED TO ME IN ANY MORTAL KOMBAT GAME LIKE THIS IN MY LIFE. EVEN ON VERY EASY ITS AS IF THE SETTING HAS NEVER CHANGED, THE AI IS FKN HARD AS HELL, AND THE DAMN GLITCHES DONT MAKE IT ANY EASIER. EVEN BEFORE THE ROUND STARTS AND SAY "FIGHT" THEY ALREADY BUST A SIGNATURE MOVE AND YOU ARE IN THE HOLE. IF THIS DAMN GAME WASNT A DOWNLOAD, I WOULDVE THROWN THIS SHIT OUT ALONG TIME AGO. THEY SERIOUSLY NEED TO FIX THE GLITCHES AND THE AI BECASUE THIS IS BULLSHIT.

Easy as pie on normal:
Anyone till Kintaro: Liu Kang - keep kick spamming plus bicycle kick sometime.
Kintaro: Keep jump+kicking, walk 2 steps back and repeat till he's dead.
kahn: for this one i used sub-zero.
freeze, jump+kick, sweep-spam and (if close enough) uppercut -> repeat.

worked for me.

10/12 cheevos here so far.

Monday, September 05, 2011 @ 04:07:26 PM

Two things:
1. IT IS PROVEN that you can get this achievement on very easy!!! That is how I got it.

2. For those who have problems, I used liu kang the whole way. Listen to what @25 says, it is true. The only flaw that I had is spamming kicks don't work always. It will always work if all they do is duck, if they block, then find another method for you are screwed. For Kahn, I spammed bickle kicks and if they connect, comeback with the flying kick. Other than that, listen to @25, he has it right.

Sunday, September 11, 2011 @ 12:02:00 PM

i got it on 2nd attempt on normal difficulty. when i tried it for 1st time, i had very easy difficulty and did not get it.
btw: good "tactic" on shao kahn is using low kick. he had to be slightly retarded because he keeps walking towards me and i just kicked him away and he walked towards me again. he blocked all my kicks but it makes little damage to him so he can be killed this very easy way.

The name of the achievement says it all, ARCADE KOMBATANT.
I'll give you all a hint. For all 3 games there is an arcade filter and there is a cabinet display.
Why would you need to successfully do test your might? Is the achievement called Test your Might ARCADE KOMBATANT?
There is no glitch. Just do it the right way!

The funny thing is, is that people don't realize that the game wasn't meant to
be easy; at all. MK 2 was an arcade game that was meant to make you frustrated,
happy, and most of all, spend money. If you're not dying constantly in MK,
you're either doing really good, or you need to crank up the difficulty.
I suggest some hints that I use for the game.

1: Use jump-kicking sparingly: the AI does predict your moves after a while.

2: Sweeping: take advantage of it as much as possible.

3: Learning Specials: Not just your own, but the AI's, as well. If you do,
the game will be a lot easier to predict what to do when an attack happens.

4: Kintaro: Kintaro is tough, but kill-able. Jump-kicking is key, so
turn on your audio; this so that you can hear his attacks and know when to

If this is truely a port from arcade, it should have a scaling system where if you start on very easy, your fight with Shang Tsung will be very hard, but if you start on Normal, the whole game is normal. A lot of arcades would start at easy, so people pump quarters into the machine to beat that one guy they keep dying on, so they can get to the boss.

If you are in possession of a controller with turbo function, this might be really easy to obtain.

1. Get a controller with turbo function (obvious)
2. Set turbo function for B button.
3. Start MKII, keep B button pushed in. This is important!!!!
4. Start the fight. The joke is because the B button is depressed, the game constantly 'waits' 4 seconds and does bicycle kicks infinitely, thus getting no space for the CPU to place an attack. I finished MKII on very hard in 15 minutes, with fighting Jade, Tsang Tsung, Kintaro and Shao Kahn alltogether!

11 hours over the course of 3 nights, left my xbox on for over 50 hours straight, and nothing. I should've gotten the one for all 3 games as well. But nothing. Done with Midway, forever. If your achievements don't work your too incapable of my time or money.

BTW, the arcade versions suck on controllers. Even on PC with emulators. The console versions always ported well and should have been used here. The arcade versions of 2 and 3 were designed as quarter draining experiences. These games were not as difficult on SNES or Genesis. I think the AI in 2 moves slightly quicker than the console versions, too. 3 is kind of the same until the shao kahn fight. then the arcade version gets ridiculous to drain quarters. Midway always was sort of a soulless corporate hog and even spending $3.50 on

Reading these comments, I was terrified of this achievement. However, @25 had great advice. I just got the cheevo in 45 minutes. I had it on Very Easy and spammed the flying kick nonstop from Liu Kang. As it got harder, I used the time to my advantage. I would kick an opponent a couple times, then they would just keep ducking. The time would run out and I'd win by default. Flying kick left, then right, and just don't stop until time is out. I beat Shao Khan with Mileena's forward, forward B move nonstop. Even though he kept blocking, his health would still decrease. Can't believe how easy this worked out. Thanks, everyone! :-)

just found out something with Scorpion play as Liu Kang and do the Flying Kick move and most of the time he blocks and then he uses his spear but sometimes it'll pass right through you and you can uppercut him so as soon as he starts to stand up Flying Kick attack him and it'll either go right through you or he'll hit you and if that happens as soon as you get up Flying Kick because he'll use Spear immediately missing you

Use Jax, anytime that the other kombatant jumps to you catch him in the air and repeat this to any player before Kintaro.

Kintaro is a little more dificult, I beat him with Liu Kang jumping over him and shot rigth away the dragon fire this is the easy tactic.

Shao Kahn is more easy with any player just kick him with low kick in the rigth moment, do this and maybe you get double flawless.

@58 About damn time.

I beat this game twice (each run taking about 3 hours) when it first came out and it glitched both times. Any time I tried later I would just get mad. I gave up and have griped ever since.

Now I used my MadCatz SFIV controller, set B to turbo, and it really works. Well, most of the time. You have to start holding it right when the announcer starts saying "Round..." and then you'll bicycle kick like crazy, even if they block or get a good hit in. If your timing is off though, you'll only get a couple then you'll just stand there. Resume flying kicks and hope you win. If you ever get caught in an enemy move that stuns you for a while (Scorpion dagger and uppercut) then hold b again and sometimes you can get it back.

Beats anyone in one or two tries. Though I end
