With Assassin's Creed: Syndicate (formerly known as AC: Victory) set to be officially revealed later today, the rumour mill continues grinding unabated, with the latest rumblings suggesting that you'll be able to play as a female protagonist. According to sources, you'll be able to play as both Jacob and Evie, who are brother and sister in the game, and deeply embroiled in the seamy criminal underground of Victorian London.

It seems likely that Evie's inclusion in Syndicate could be a response to criticisms levelled at Assassin's Creed Unity for failing to include a female assassin, despite its support for four-player co-op. All four characters were male (all were versions of main character Arno, in truth), with Ubisoft claiming that "double the animations" would be required for a female character. Nonetheless, AC III spin-off Assassin's Creed: Liberation featured a female assassin named Aveline.

The anonymous sources also claim that Assassin's Creed: Syndicate's story will be weighted more towards Jacob, with around three quarters of the story taking place from his perspective, while the remaining 25% of the game will be made up of Evie missions. Apparently, you'll still be able to switch between the two characters on the fly while exporing the open-world of London. Multiplayer will once again be absent in Syndicate, as per Unity.

Of course, we'll have the full story when Ubisoft lifts the lid on Assassin's Creed: Syndicate at 5pm UK time today. You can watch the reveal live stream right here.
