Twisted Pixel has parted ways with Microsoft, which acquired the studio back in October 2011. The Austin-based studio is now fully independent.

Speaking in a press announcement, The ‘Splosion Man, The Gunstringer and Loco Cycle developer said its relationship with Microsoft is still strong.

"Microsoft has been an incredible partner since day one and we've always kept a background dialog open with them about the idea of returning to an independent studio model if the timing made sense for us," said Josh Bear, Twisted Pixel co-founder and creative director.

Executive producer Bill Muehl added, "We're looking forward to the new relationships and platforms this will open up to us and continuing our strong partnership with Microsoft on future titles for their platforms."

All six of Twisted Pixel’s games have been published by Microsoft. The Max came first in 2009, followed by ‘Splosion Man, Comic Jumper, Ms. Splosion Man, The Gunstringer and the Xbox One launch title, LocoCycle.
