Marvel Vs. Capcom 4 Is Real, Coming To Consoles In 2017 - Report

It looks like Capcom is due to unveil the newest game in its esteemed Marvel Vs. Capcom crossover series at the Capcom Cup this weekend.

Taking place alongside Sony's PlayStation Experience, the Capcom Cup 2016 is a Street Fighter V tournament (so it makes sense that Capcom would theoretically announce a new title there). Polygon reports that the game is due to be announced at the Cup, and that the game is already in development and due for release some time in 2017.

Polygon tells players to expect the game to draw strongly on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, too, rather than the wider roster of Marvel characters we've seen in previous games (ergo; don't expect mutants in here, thanks to the licensing deal Marvel made with Fox).

Instead, you can probably expect the 'mainstay' Marvel franchises to dedicate characters to the cause; Guardians Of The Galaxy, The Avengers, Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and Spiderman are all likely franchises whose heroes and villains will appear. Fantastic Four and X-Men related properties may not get a look-in, this time.

It's worth noting that Capcom's license with Marvel expired in 2013, and shortly after the previous games in the series (as well as their DLCs) were pulled from Microsoft and Sony's digital stores. Because of this, previous games in the series haven't been able to receive updates... but Polygon also reports that this may be about to change, too.

Polygon reached out to Capcom to see what's what, but the publisher simply responded: “Capcom does not comment on rumors or speculation.”

We look forward to seeing what gets announced at PlayStation Experience.
