Infinity Ward has added a 'Black Lives Matter' start screen message to both Call of Duty Warzone and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, as the developer looks to clamp down on racism in its games. Admitting "we need to do a better job" in countering racist content, Infinity Ward has pledged to monitor and ID "racist and hate-oriented names", issuing thousands of bans "on a daily basis".

More resources are being made available as Infinity Ward implements a more rigorous approach to weeding out racist and hateful usernames and other such content, with Warzone and Modern Warfare's in-game reporting tools to be expanded to include racism parameters as reasons for issuing a report. "Greater restrictions" on name changes and smarter filters are also set to be added, while repeat offenders will be given permanent bans.

As for the Black Lives Matter messaging in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone, it appears in the former as a 'Message of the Day' screen and in the latter as you're loading into a match. "Our community is hurting," it reads. "The systemic inequalities our community experiences are once again center stage. Call of Duty and Infinity Ward stand for equality and inclusion. We stand against the racism and injustice our Black community endures. Until change happens and Black Lives Matter, we will never truly be the community we strive to be."
