Minecraft's Long-Awaited Nether Update Releases Next Week

Written By

Mojang has announced that Minecraft's 'Nether Update' will be arriving on Xbox One next week.

The update makes some significant changes to the game's Nether dimension. What was previously a near completely lava-filled world with very little to offer other than danger, the Nether will now instead be split up into different biomes, with new NPC characters and enemies.

The snout-nosed fellows you see in the image above are the Piglins, a dangerous species that look like some sort of cursed Link from The Legend of Zelda. They won't always be hostile, but they are extremely protective of their possessions, and will attack if you try and take anything from a chest if they are nearby. They can be bargained with, however, and wearing gold will stop them from attacking you. You can also use gold ingots to barter with them.

One thing you can barter with Piglins for is Netherite - a new material in Minecraft that is stronger than even Diamond. You can use Netherite Ingots to upgrade your Diamond gear to become the strongest armour and weapons in the game. Oh, and it's fireproof.

There are more additions on top of these, including Hoglins that can be hunted, and a new Target Block that can be integrated into Redstone switched. Check out the full details on the Minecraft website here.

The Nether Update launches on Xbox One on 23rd June 2020.
