Capcom Confirms its Digital Games Make Up 80% of Sales

Written By

Capcom has confirmed that 80% of the Japanese publisher's game sales are now digital in a recent sharholders meeting.

This was in response to a question asking what the company's objectives were for digital sales, with Capcom stating that they were pushing for 90%.

"Our current digital download sales ratio is approximately 80%. While it ultimately depends on how our customers behave going forward, for the time being we are promoting our digital strategy with an objective of 90%, since there are some customers who prefer to own discs."

"We aim to continue expanding our business performance by maximizing the benefits of digital sales, which include being able to provide our content both for longer periods of time and throughout the world."

As pointed out by gamesindustry.biz, this is a big leap from last year, where Capcom reported that digital sales made up around 53% of its total sales. The industry as a whole has been moving toward digital for a while now as download speeds increase and users become more comfortable owning digital software. Microsoft even launched an all-digital Xbox One last year, and rumour has it that the not-yet-confirmed Xbox Series S will be digital only as well.
