Xbox One X and Xbox One All-Digital Officially Discontinued By Microsoft

Written By

A new console generation is creeping ever closer and it appears Microsoft is clearing the way, as it announces that it is halting production of the Xbox One X and the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition.

"As we ramp into the future with Xbox Series X, we’re taking the natural step of stopping production on Xbox One X and Xbox One S All-Digital Edition," a Microsoft spokesperson told The Verge. The Xbox One S, however, will continue to live on as the go-to Xbox One on sale, with Microsoft confirming that "Xbox One S will continue to be manufactured and sold globally."

This is fairly standard procedure for a console manufacturer going into a new generation, but it does seem strange that the more powerful Xbox One X is being discontinued, especially as Xbox continues to push the idea that players don't need to upgrade to Series X immediately with all first party games being available on Xbox One for the next year or so. This move will see a rather large gap in the market left between the aging Xbox One S and the powerful Xbox Series X... or will it? If anything, this feels like even more concrete proof of the rumoured Xbox Series S, which will aim to replace the Xbox One X as a more accessible high-end console. We're hoping to hear more about this in August, but if you really wanted to add an Xbox One X to your console collection, make sure you grab one soon.

Xbox Series X is due to launch Holiday 2020.
