343 Industries will be introducing cross-play support in the Halo: The Master Chief Collection later this year, enabling Xbox One and PC players to play together. The update will include Server Region Selection options and Input-based Matchmaking, and a Custom Game Browser across both platforms.

To ensure an even playing field, Xbox players will also be able to use mouse and keyboard, if they prefer, so you'll be able to match with players using the same peripherals. 343 is also committed to adding the Halo 3: ODST campaign and Halo 4 to the PC version of The Master Chief Collection, as well as ODST Firefight with updated networking to both Xbox and PC in 2020.

"We are also planning to include Halo 3 content in a patch during this flight to test some changes we have made to hit registration and Halo 3: ODST weapons in Halo 3," 343 confirmed in an update on HaloWaypoint. Seems you'll have a reason to revisit Halo: the Master Chief Collection before Halo Infinite launches in holiday 2020, then.
