Xbox Will Open The Tokyo Game Show 2020 Livestream Later This Month

Written By

Microsoft will be opening this year's Tokyo Game Show with a 50-minute presentation later this month.

The presentation will celebrate Japanese creators and games, and will have sections focusing on Microsoft Flight Simulator and Minecraft, all in Japanese. However, Xbox has said that there won't be any next-gen news.

Xbox has previously failed to make much of an impact in Japan, with the console market dominated by Nintendo and Sony, and Microsoft made little effort to change that with the release of the Xbox One, which launched in Japan nearly a year later.

However, in recent years Xbox boss Phil Spencer has spoken often about wanting to do better in the region, travelling to Japan to speak to developers and publishers in January this year. Xbox Japan also pledged to do a much better job with the Xbox Series X launch.

With classic Japanese series like Yakuza, Monster Hunter and even Dragon Quest finally making the jump to Xbox consoles in recent years, and the American software company headlining a Japanese show that won't include Sony or Nintendo, it seems that Microsoft's efforts are beginning to bear fruit. It will be fascinating to see how Xbox Series X fares when it launches in Japan this November.
