Grounded Developer Vlog Examines Insect Behaviour in the Backyard

Obsidian has released a new developer vlog for Grounded, the game in which you play as a shrunken-down survivor fighting for their life amid the towering blades of grass in a suburban back garden. While being roughly the size of an ant, you'll face numerous challenges from insects, each with their own agenda.

That agenda and their behaviour is dictated by something called a 'Goal-Oriented-Action-Plan' (GOAP) managed by AI that determines how each insect makes their way through Grounded's world. When you're fighting for survival by building shelters and scavenging for resources, an aphid might be looking for a clover to make themselves happy.

Apparently an aphid will explode with happiness upon finding a clover, leaving behind honeydew - and we've just learnt that aphids can indeed explode. Visit a flooded zone and you'll encounter gnats, while mushrooms signify the presence of weevils who love to feast on the tasty fungus. You can find out more details in the new dev vlog below.

Grounded is currently available via Xbox Game Preview, Xbox Game Pass, Windows 10 Store and Steam Early Access, and is due to receive a new content update on 30th September. This will add new items, game changes, fixes, and "some special surprises".
