Frontier has announced that Elite Dangerous will be receiving a major update that will make the Elite Dangerous: Horizons expansion completely free, and folded into the base game for all owners in October. Anyone who has previously purchased the DLC, will receive an exclusive Azure paint job available for all 41 ships in the game.

Horizons adds planetary landings, the SRV Scarab surface recon vehicle, and more to Elite Dangerous, as well as weapon-crafting, surface star posts, ship-launched fighters, and multi-crew co-op action. The Horizons expansion initially launched in December 2015, and will remain on sale until 26th October.

Then, on 27th October, Elite Dangerous: Horizons will be removed from sale, and will form part of the base game on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, making it free to all players.
